Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 3, 2026 Last Updated: July 3, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Technical Angler, LLC ("Technical Angler," "we," "us," or "our"), a South Carolina limited liability company, collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our proprietary and co-distributed mobile applications, websites, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

2. Definitions

For purposes of this Privacy Policy:

  • "Technical Angler" means Technical Angler, LLC, a South Carolina limited liability company.
  • "Services" means our mobile applications, websites, and related digital services.
  • "User Content" means any content, data, or information you provide through our Services.

  • Password (never stored in plain text)
  • Profile information you choose to share

  • Data you input and track within our applications
  • Photos and media you upload (optional)
  • Location information, if you provide it. See Section 3.3 for product-specific detail.
  • Notes and comments you create
  • Date and time stamps of your activities

Optional Contact Information:

  • Full name
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • Communication preferences

Communications:

  • Messages you send through our support channels
  • Feedback and survey responses
  • Customer service interactions

3.2 Automatically Collected Information

Device and Usage Information:

  • Device type, operating system, and version
  • IP address and general location (city or state level)
  • Browser type and version
  • App usage patterns and feature interactions
  • Session duration and frequency of use
  • App-scoped device identifiers - random identifiers generated within our apps (not your device's advertising identifier) that we use to verify your subscription across your devices and to group crash reports

Crash and error reporting. We use third-party error-monitoring services that collect crash reports, performance diagnostics, and limited device attributes (such as OS version and app version). These reports may be associated with an internal account identifier so we can assist you if you contact support.

App telemetry. Our app framework collects aggregate stability and usage telemetry to help us monitor reliability and roll out updates.

Subscription management. If you subscribe, we use a third-party subscription-management service to verify your subscription across your devices. Payment card information is handled by Apple or Google, not by us.

3.3 Product-Specific Disclosures (Inshore)

The disclosures in Sections 3.1 and 3.2 above describe the categories of information we may collect across our Services. For our Inshore app specifically, the following details apply:

  • Location. Inshore collects precise GPS coordinates only when you explicitly create a spot, log a session, or record a catch. Location is captured in the foreground only. Inshore does not request "Always Allow" or background location access. You can tap a location on the map instead of using device GPS. Coordinates are stored on your device first (see "Local-first data" below) and synced to our cloud backend along with the rest of your spot, log, and catch records.
  • Local-first data. Some data is stored locally on your device and synced to our backend. Local data may be removed from your device when you sign out.
  • Tide and weather data. Inshore enriches logged sessions with tide and weather data from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

4. How We Use Your Information

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

Service Providers. We work with third-party service providers to operate the Services, including providers of cloud database and hosting, crash and error monitoring, app framework telemetry, subscription management, email delivery, and analytics. Each is contractually limited to processing your information on our behalf and only for the purposes described in this Policy. Payment processing for in-app purchases is handled by Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Billing (Android); Technical Angler does not receive or store your payment card information.

Public Data Sources. Inshore displays tide, water-temperature, and weather data sourced from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). When Inshore enriches a logged session, the spot's coordinates are sent to NOAA's public API. NOAA is a U.S. government agency, not a service provider acting on our behalf. It's a public data source we attribute.

Program Partners. Some of our applications are operated on behalf of a partner organization that runs a fish-entry or conservation program (for example, the Release Over 20 program). When you submit an entry through such an app, your entry, including the catch details, photos, and any contact information the program requires, is shared with the partner organization that runs the program. The partner's use of that information is governed by its own privacy practices.

Research and Analytics:

  • Obfuscated, anonymized data may be used for research purposes.
  • Aggregated statistics may be shared with partners.
  • Internal research helps us improve services and develop new features.
  • No personally identifiable information is included in research data.
  • Your location data (including your spots, catches, and any tracked locations) is never shared for research, analytics, or marketing purposes, and is not viewed by anyone outside Technical Angler except as necessary to operate the Services (such as storage with our cloud hosting providers and the NOAA enrichment described in Section 3.3) or as required by law. We will access your individual location data only when necessary to resolve a specific issue at your request.

Legal Requirements:

  • When required by law, court order, or government authority
  • To protect our rights, property, or safety
  • To prevent fraud, illegal activities, or security threats
  • In connection with legal proceedings or investigations

Business Transfers:

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the business transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership.

With Your Consent:

  • When you explicitly authorize us to share information
  • For services that require third-party integration
  • When you participate in joint promotions or partnerships

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Encryption of sensitive data in transit and at rest
  • Secure authentication and access controls
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Limited access to personal information on a need-to-know basis
  • Secure data storage with reputable service providers

That said, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information using commercially acceptable means, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete that information immediately.

If you are between 13 and 18, you may only use our Services with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian.

Where any of our Services carries an App Store rating of 4+ or a Google Play rating of "Everyone," that rating reflects the absence of objectionable content in the app. It is not an indication that the app is marketed to children. The 13+ minimum age requirement still applies.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to:

  • Provide Services to you
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Resolve disputes and enforce agreements
  • Fulfill legitimate business purposes

Account Data: Retained while your account is active. When you request account deletion, your account and associated data are removed from our active systems within a commercially reasonable period after your request (typically not more than 30 days). Residual copies may persist in backups for a limited additional period before expiring in the normal course of backup rotation. We do not restore deleted accounts from backups. Activity Records: Same as Account Data. Anonymized statistics (for example, aggregate counts of activity, with no user identifier) may be retained for research and product improvement. Communication Records: Retained for 2 years after last contact. Technical Data: Crash reports and telemetry are typically retained for 12 months.

10. Service Availability and Data Location

Our Services are offered to users in the United States. Your information is stored and processed in the United States by our service providers.

We do not currently offer the Services to residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, and the Services have not been designed to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the UK GDPR. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws.

  • Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and preferences.
  • Performance Cookies: Monitor and improve application performance.

You can control cookie settings through your browser or device settings, though some features may not function properly if cookies are disabled.

Our Services may integrate with the following categories of third-party services:

  • Mapping and location services
  • Cloud database and hosting providers
  • Crash and error monitoring services
  • App framework telemetry
  • Subscription management services
  • Payment processors (Apple App Store, Google Play Billing)
  • Public data sources (NOAA, for tide and weather data)
  • Social media platforms (where you choose to connect)

These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them before using integrated features.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We'll notify you of material changes by:

  • Posting a prominent notice in our Services
  • Sending email notification to registered users
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

Your continued use of our Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
